So, I'm actually pretty good at reading kanji.
【RIKU】： Iori was shocked.
【TSUMUGI】： Somehow, the image of Riku-san being a bookworm is a bit unexpected!
【TSUMUGI】： Riku-san, thank you for all of your hard work!
The costume designs for IDOLiSH7's new single have been completed!
【TSUMUGI】： They were made using a chess knight as inspiration, as well.
【RIKU】： Ohh, that's cool! By knight, you mean like jousting, then.
【TSUMUGI】： That's correct. The chess piece is made with a horse's face!
Riku-san, have you ever played chess?
【RIKU】： Once, my older brother tried teaching me, but it was hard and I didn't really get it.
I can get Othello, though.
【TSUMUGI】： I also tried looking over a rulebook, but I couldn't really understand any of it.
【TSUMUGI】： Board games are difficult, aren't they?
Do you enjoy games, Riku-san?
【RIKU】： I like them.
【RIKU】： When I was a kid, all I did was play games.
【RIKU】： Because of the backlash, I don't really get very engrossed in them these days, but basically, I like them.
【TSUMUGI】： I see...
【TSUMUGI】： Riku-san, you weren't able to do intense exercise, right?
【RIKU】： Since my parents were worrywarts, especially so.
【RIKU】： I like shooting and action games where the screen moves.
Especially the ones that only require button taps.
【RIKU】： RPGs are interesting, but there's so much to do it makes them difficult.
【RIKU】： Since I didn't know how to build weapons or armor, I once made it to Lvl.50 with a wooden staff.
【RIKU】： I understood once my brother explained it to me, though.
【TSUMUGI】： Did your brother also enjoy games?
【RIKU】： Did he?
I don't think he ever really played them on his own.
【RIKU】： He was always telling me that playing them too often wasn't good for me, too.
【RIKU】： But, it was always boring when he wasn't around, and so I always wound up playing unintentionally.
【TSUMUGI】： Was there anything else you did?
【RIKU】： I'd read books and study.

1. riku's "by knight you mean like jousting" is 1000000% my adlib -- in japanese, "(chess) knight" is spelled phonetically as "naito", so here riku is clarifying that "naito" = "騎士" (another word meaning 'knight', read as 'kishi'). unfortunately in english the literal translation "by knight, you mean a knight knight" does absolutely nothing, so I put in a clarification on the type of knight instead and it still looks funky! rip.
2. "because of the backlash" is kind of an awkwardly literal translation, but I think the implication is meant to be that because riku played a lot of games when he was younger (because he couldn't play outside due to his illness), playing games nowadays reminds him of his childhood where he couldn't play outside a lot, so it's difficult for him to immerse himself in playing. alternatively, it could just be that he tired himself out on engrossing himself in games as a kid and now he just plays casually.
3. in this rabbit chat riku consistently refers to tenn as "nii-san", which makes me? think that? this comes before the reveal in the story that they're twins? but that's? very strange? chronologically? — anyways, I've decided to translate it as "my brother" instead of leaving it as "nii-san" (like I do for iori) in these cases because it's more like riku's referring to tenn in the third person. especially since he normally calls tenn v. affectionately, the fact that he's using the considerably politer 'nii-san' stands out....
4. ok but how much do you think I have to pay for 子供の頃天と陸 v. important question??? please god....
5. originally what riku's brother (*coughs*ten*coughs*) told him was that playing them too much was "目の毒" which translates literally as "poison to the eyes" -- apparently as a phrase it has the literal meaning of being "temptation; tempting; something which must not be seen" -- all of which are? v. dramatic.... and kind of difficult to translate.... so I went with something a bit tamer.
