SOGO OSAKA / DAY OFF : PART 2
Jan. 3rd, 2016 09:30 pm【TSUMUGI】: I'm very happy that you and Kinako are getting along well, Sogo-san!
【SOGO】: Thank you for all of your hard work. Is now a good time?
【TSUMUGI】: Sogo-san, thank you for all of your hard work!
It's fine! I was just eating lunch right now!
【SOGO】: Sorry to intrude while you're eating.
I'm not sure how exactly it got in, but right now, Kinako-chan? Kinako-kun? is in the dorms.
【TSUMUGI】: Kinako is!? I wonder if she escaped and went all the way down to the dorms to play......
I'm so sorry! I'll have my father go down to retrieve her later!
【SOGO】: No, no, I'd feel terrible having the president come down.
Would it be fine if I brought her back to the office later?
【TSUMUGI】: I'm so sorry......! Thank you very much!
【SOGO】: No problem.
【SOGO】: This is regarding Kinako-san, but maybe it's because she's being kept in an entertainment office.
I feel like she flicks her ears in reaction to music.
【SOGO】: In addition, when I had her listen to an album that's been called a famous recording, her reactions were even better.
【TSUMUGI】: Ogami-san's said something similar.
That a song that Kinako reacts to will absolutely become a hit.
【TSUMUGI】: I'd said that couldn't it simply be that her ears itch, though....
【SOGO】: I don't think that's how it is!
I wonder if she can't tell the difference by listening. She's an incredible rabbit.
【SOGO】: With the albums from an artist I like, her reaction to the first was good, but her reaction to the third was poor.
【SOGO】: It just happened to be an album where it feels like the conversion is boiled down, so without thinking I responded, "You're right".
【TSUMUGI】: Addressing Kinako, you mean?
【SOGO】: Was that weird, I wonder......
【SOGO】: But, it'd be scary if on a MEZZO" song she had a good reaction to Tamaki-kun's part, but a bad reaction on my part, so I'll think of it as her ears just being itchy instead.......
【SOGO】: Sorry for contacting you for such a strange reason. I was just a bit surprised.
【TSUMUGI】: Not at all! I'm very happy that you and Kinako are getting along well, Sogo-san!
【TSUMUGI】: It's possible that she understands music, then!
【SOGO】: That's right! She's incredible, Kinako-san. Her preference with music aligns with mine.
I'll try having her listen to some other albums, too.
【SOGO】: Sorry for contacting you for such a strange reason. I was just a bit surprised.
【TSUMUGI】: Not at all! I'm very happy that you and Kinako are getting along well, Sogo-san!
【TSUMUGI】: Please scratch her ears!
【SOGO】: Ah, ... right......! I'm very sorry for getting overexcited.......
【SOGO】: Sorry for contacting you for such a strange reason. I was just a bit surprised.
【TSUMUGI】: Not at all! I'm very happy that you and Kinako are getting along well, Sogo-san!

t/n:
1. it's been so long since I first read all of sougo's day off chats (my backlog..... ||||||) but all I remember is thinking Wow I Can't Believe There's An Entire Chat About Kinako
I'm constantly puzzled over kinako's general existence, it's a personal thing......
2. japanese doesn't use pronouns (or even just subjects) nearly as heavily as english does, so up until now whenever kinako was referenced I'd insert a gendered pronoun however I saw fit (so tsumugi referred to her as a 'she' (since I'm 99% certain kinako is a girl), iori referred to her as an 'it' (because I thought that seemed like an Iori Thing To Do)), but those pronouns were never actually specified in text!
so in this chat sougo is puzzling over kinako's gender (so I wrote 'it' for his original pronoun of choice), hence why he's waffling over which honorific to use when he first references her! but even when tsumugi responds in japanese, she never outright states kinako's gender or implies which honorific should be used, which is why sougo settles for the more gender neutral -san
which still makes me laugh, because, this grown ass man is struggling to decide which honorific he should use for a rabbit, and meanwhile I'm just amazed kinako made it all the way down to the dorms without being injured or picked up off the street
what an industrious bunny
anyways, since I've inserted pronouns into both tsumugi and sougo's speech (and so after tsumugi names her as a 'she', I wrote sougo as adapting f pronouns as well), the fact that he settles on -san doesn't seem quite as logical..... so I'm making a note of it down here!
I guess I could have just made the executive decision and had sougo call her kinako-chan instead tho
3. tsumugi keeps switching between calling banri by his first name and by his surname and I'm never sure which one she's going to use
4. at first I thought "耳をかいてあげてください!" was meant to be "please clean out your/her ears" or something and I was like dang tsumugi, and sougo's response did very little to elucidate me but then I realised that since tsumugi was saying she thought kinako's ear flicking was because her ears itched, she's probably telling sougo to scratch kinako's ears because, again, she thinks that they itch
so basically dialogue path #3 is tsumugi shooting sougo down. how brutal.......
5. sougo says that the album had 転向期で煮詰まった which literally means "died down around the conversion period" or. .. ... something like that?? ??? I honestly have no idea but the general impression I'm getting is that he's saying that kinako having a good reaction to the first but a bad reaction to the third is kinako being On The Right track, so I fudged my t/l with that general implication.
I think he's either saying that he doesn't like the third movement of the album either, or he's saying that the album loses its steam 2/3rds of the way in?
6. the はしゃいで that sougo uses to apologise is the same はしゃいで that he uses to talk about how he started fanboying over trigger if that puts things in perspective at all.....
7. I can't tell if sougo is good or bad with animals if the general impression I'm getting is that he sat down with kinako next to his cd cabinet and started going through albums 1 by 1
after a certain point I'd almost start feeling sorry for kinako.......
8. I think this is the first sign I've seen of sougo comparing himself to tamaki vocally (or even having a self-deprecating side) so it's interesting to me that his first thought is "it'd be scary if kinako reacted better to tamaki-kun's voice than she did to mine"? (rather than just a "it'd be scary if her reactions weren't balanced on a mezzo'' song") maybe it's because I'm still thinking about how @ the end of his unit chats sougo was like "I have to work hard to that tamaki-kun doesn't forsake me" but still
I mean *coughs* if I were kinako *coughs* I'd pick kenn, but,
【SOGO】: Thank you for all of your hard work. Is now a good time?
