【TSUMUGI】: Around how old were you when you began living there?
【TAMAKI】: Three years old?

【TSUMUGI】: Tamaki-san, thank you for all of your hard work.
The documents I asked for a few days ago, the ones that required a signature from your guardian, I still haven't received them, but......

【TAMAKI】: Aah— I forgot
【TAMAKI】: Tomorrow, I'll go down there

【TSUMUGI】: I'm sorry to make you go to the trouble, but I'll be in your care!
【TSUMUGI】: The facility you were in, Tamaki-san, is it in a place far away from here?

【TAMAKI】: Not really. Around 30 minutes on the train. From the station it's a 20 minute walk.

【TSUMUGI】: I've also been thinking that I should go and pay my respects to the head director once.
Next time, by all means, please allow me to go with you.

【TAMAKI】: Sure thing.

[1]: What sort of place is it?
[2]: What sort of friends did you have?
[3]: What sort of person is the head director?

【TSUMUGI】: What sort of place is it?

【TAMAKI】: Normal

【TSUMUGI】: Around how old were you when you began living there?

【TAMAKI】: Three years old? Up until before I started elementary school, my old man would loiter around and it was obnoxious

【TSUMUGI】: Your father, Tamaki-san...

【TAMAKI】: Right. Saying gimme back my kids.
Like he has a right to say it. That damned old man.
【TAMAKI】: At some point it looks like he got bored and so he stopped coming.

【TSUMUGI】: Is that so...... It must have been rough...

【TSUMUGI】: What sort of friends did you have?

【TAMAKI】: Guys who'd listen to what I said

【TSUMUGI】: Around how old were you when you began living there?

【TAMAKI】: Three years old? Up until before I started elementary school, my old man would loiter around and it was obnoxious

【TSUMUGI】: Your father, Tamaki-san...

【TAMAKI】: Right. Saying gimme back my kids.
Like he has a right to say it. That damned old man.
【TAMAKI】: At some point it looks like he got bored and so he stopped coming.

【TSUMUGI】: Is that so...... It must have been rough...

【TSUMUGI】: What sort of person is the head director?

【TAMAKI】: A nice but scary old lady.

t/n:

1. I translated a bunch on the plane but it took me forever to get them proofed and posted oops

2. this chat is the reason I put off translating tamaki's ordinary days set for so long because this chat Depresses me

3. tamaki if it takes you an hour to get somewhere I'm pretty sure it's far away

more importantly what was takanashi sr. even doing that far out

4. tamaki and iori visit tamaki's facility in their day off chats and the most important thing to come out of that was "doesn't the head director (園長先生) resemble sou-chan" "?!?!?!???? she was an old lady!?!?" "cause her hair's white and she nags a lot"

5. every time i think about this chat I feel a new surge of anger @ the pd who decided it would be a smart idea to reunite tamaki w/ his dad on that TV show instead of properly finding aya and I'm just like no wonder tamaki threw a speaker at him

(I don't think tamaki actually threw a speaker at him but I do remember there being injuries involved)

6. anyways I think I've talked about tamaki's situation before but it definitely looks like he and aya were taken in by cps and removed from their father's care, somehow... I'm not sure how exactly that works in japan but you can imagine it probably means there wasn't a pleasant home life...... it's also possible that his parents were separated or s/t?? idk

another thing to note is that in japanese tamaki says his dad said "俺の子供を返せ" — 子供 (child) can be either singular or plural so it's up to the reader to decide whether they think his dad is saying "give me back my kid" or "give me back my kids"! in other words I think this chat is trying to avoid spoiling anything about tamaki having a little sister by giving a vague plural noun rather than a decisive singular or plural one! (i.e. saying 'give me back my son' or 'give me back my 子供達')

unfortunately english lacks a corresponding vague plural noun and so I've done it. I've spoiled everyone by translating this as 'gimme back my kids'. I figure that everyone who reads my translations knows that I yell about tamaki a lot and half of the time if I yell about tamaki I'm yelling about aya so mostly everyone who reads my translations is Probably Spoiled, but I thought I'd make a note that this is another one of the cases where rabbit chats try to avoid spoiling main story pieces!

7. tamaki says "良く言うわ" when he quotes what his dad was saying and the lit. translation is nonsensical but the implication is either a.) that his dad said it A Lot, or b.) general sarcasm about it being a Not Good Thing

so I took a few liberties with the phrasing to make it clear that tamaki is p disdainful of his dad

8. tamaki saying that his friends were people who listened to what he said makes me think about how he said in his unit chats he thought he had to be extra selfish to beat his dad's selfishness and I *starts crying*

9. *keeps crying*

10. I CAN'T BELIEVE TAMAKI'S MOM DIED WHEN HE WAS THREE!!!!!!!!! I feel like it's stated that aya's a first year in high school right now which means there's two years between them and I'm so distraught thinking about baby tamaki taking care of infant/toddler aya in the facility

no wonder she got scared whenever their dad came around........ 理推しです、私は…
