1. so as I sit here and wait for the children in this chat to settle down, let me take a moment to whine about chronology LOL
okay so first of all what is this christmas special program, in the story I could have sworn i7 and trigger were doing their own thing on christmas???? i7 was doing the zenza for douglas rootbank routebank I haven't decided how I want to romanize his name but it's coming up quick and trigger was?? doing something else, I don't really remember.....
since the cooking show from the manga gets referenced, is the christmas special program something from the novel??? I haven't gotten around to reading mine yet but I do not remember it from the main story. also the cooking show chapter being mentioned has me becoming the personification of a question mark because ? ?? I could have sworn that the manga took place after idolish7 got big and famous (and took the 新人賞 at least???? which is still before black or white but that's when the first chapter starts and heck if they have time to get to a deserted island before christmas), so why is it being referenced before WHAT I ASSUME IS THE FIRST BLACK OR WHITE THAT IDOLISH7 AND TRIGGER ARE BOTH PARTICIPATING IN
I accidentally closed out of the chat and now I have to wait for the dialogue to flow all over again
on a slightly less grumpy note, these chats definitely take place after riku and ten's manga/light novel chats! to make things a bit more depressing, that probably explains why riku gets so excited at the prospect of ten being the one to suggest this, because he probably hasn't heard anything from ten ever since their magazine interview conversation thingy so from riku's perspective it's like FINALLY

2. the pudding confetti (pudding_banzai.png) is probably my favorite pudding stamp just throwing that out there as I wait for the log to get to the end (right now sougo has just jumped out of a moving vehicle. souchan abunai)
3. oh! something else to mention is that as you're reading this chat (and the other CD bonus chats), you should keep in mind the member geography; mitsuki, iori, and tamaki are all in the dorm, sougo and nagi are together and on their way back to the dorm, and riku and yamato are eating sushi! I found myself getting confused (especially later on) when sometimes one character would, like, reply via rabicha to something they heard another character say IRL
also, that's why nagi is live broadcasting sougo's ridiculousness and yamato's like riku stop trying to look at my screen (LOL)
fyi, trigger's all sitting together in the same waiting room iirc!
4. ryuu only just arrived on my screen please save me. anyways, I've been consistently translating "笑" as "LOL" when it shows up, and I think I'd been doing the same with translating "www" as "lol"? I remember doing that for some of nagi's ordinary days chats, but since I've started to see characters using varying #s of "w"s to express their laughter and I don't really want to deal with how to make a single w a lol and a triple www a loool or lolll
so I'll go back and fix nagi's chats later but for now going forward I think I'm just going to leave "w"s in the text as w's! for anyone who isn't familiar, it's basically text slang for laughter or grinning
5. I CLOSED OUT OF THE CHAT ON ACCIDENT AGAIN I'M GOING TO CRY
so as I wait for things to load again, I'm just going to say that I'm so confused by the leg situation on secret night's cover and I can only conclude that ryuu is bent at a 45 degree angle and sticking his legs straight forward
i-isn't that painful.....
6. okay so I definitely do not know enough about tale of genji to accurately translate this but from what I can tell, there are a lot of characters with the character for jar/pot (壺) in their names, who happen to be court ladies. so my guess is that tamaki is reading tale of genji and picking up on the pattern that hey a lot of these characters have the word "jar" in their names, is this a story about jars?? hence why iori is like oh my god for the last time they're people not pottery
tamaki's mistake and iori's correction (and then riku's correctly guessing that it's genji monogatari) make more sense in japanese, I think, so I've just decided to cut my losses and translate it literally for now. there really isn't any good equivalent in english, but it'd be sort of almost be like if tamaki were reading pride and prejudice and thought the main characters were fishers because they have the word "net" in their last names. it's not a perfect analogy for obvious reasons, but it's the same sort of misconception?
the reason riku can pick up on it being tale of genji is probably because he's familiar with the character names and general plot, so "pot name" and "court ladies" and "studied in high school" = tale of genji according to riku nanase apparently! I think iori said otsukaresama just to be polite since riku'd just arrived in the chatroom but it makes me laugh to think of iori being like "finally someone gets it"
7. yamato literally refers to it as "rotating sushi" even though I think what he's talking about is the sushi conveyor belt setup thing. I don't actually know what you're supposed to call it in english but I'll probably call it a sushi-go-round because that makes me laugh
kampyo is a dried gourd that you see in futomaki; I don't actually know much about it, but based on the context I'm guessing yamato is saying it's okay because he'll eat cheap food so even if riku bankrupts him, his eating cheap food will balance things out?
I also don't know much about sushi conveyor belts but my guess is that ones with two pieces to a plate are probably going to be lower quality/cheaper fish, whereas ones with only one piece are higher quality and more expensive? riku's approaching it from the perspective of being like "one must be cheaper than two", though!
8. nagi's prediction game is on point
9. took huge liberties w/ mitsuki and tsumugi's exchange about gaku; first of all, gaku's dakaretai otoko #1 is such a pain to translate? second of all, mitsuki says "腐っても", which literally means "even if he's rotten", but in this case I think mitsuki is using it as the lead in for a proverb that basically means quality is still quality even if it isn't ideal. tsumugi however is waving her gaku yaotome defense squad flag and objecting to mitsuki referring to gaku as "rotten", though!
but since writing "even if he's rotten" in english has a bit too negative of an implication, I changed tsumugi's response to make it read as her objecting to mitsuki dissing gaku's quality!
10. tsumugi and a few other characters refer to TRIGGER as TRIGGER-san to be polite, but I feel like that looks kind of awkward so I've left it out for now and tried to imply the politeness through the rest of their words....
11. sougo says "E" (or "eh") but since it seems like something got caught in sougo's throat (he's normally such a fast typist too.....) I changed it to "O"
you can pretend it's the lead-in to an "omg" if u like
12. yamato almost says "our fates are intertwined" when referring to trigger
13. normally I eyeball the ellipses but I'm always careful to put exactly the right number of exclamation points so nanase riku is in fact that excited
I don't think that you're supposed to use まくり in the way that riku uses it, so I've made his english look a bit funky to prompt iori to say "go back to grammar school"
14. sougo references his 心の準備 which literally translates as "preparing his heart", but other characters also consistently refer to his 心の準備 and so I've translated it in a way that's easier to use it as a noun.
he sounds so strained oh my god meanwhile we have riku being like "why this" but also trying to be nice and polite
15. every time I read this chat I lose it over yamato and nagi playing newscasters for riku and sougo's antics ALSO THIS CHAT IS SO LONG GOODNESS GRACIOUS
16. tamaki's complaint about sougo reads almost identically to his login bonus line that's like "you're about as special as ousama pudding" only instead it's "you're about as difficult to get as these pots"
17. iori's brocon patience level is at an all time low in this chat
18. tamaki refers to ten's dancing as being 'kyukyu' and I am at 18 translation notes and cannot be bothered to look up what the appropriate onomatopoeia is. maybe another day......
19. nagi refers to mitsuki and iori as the "izumi brothers" in english and I feel like he's likening them to the mario brothers or something

20. do you think the angry stamps were flaming puddings or angry kinakos

1. so as I sit here and wait for the children in this chat to settle down, let me take a moment to whine about chronology LOL
okay so first of all what is this christmas special program, in the story I could have sworn i7 and trigger were doing their own thing on christmas???? i7 was doing the zenza for douglas rootbank routebank I haven't decided how I want to romanize his name but it's coming up quick and trigger was?? doing something else, I don't really remember.....
since the cooking show from the manga gets referenced, is the christmas special program something from the novel??? I haven't gotten around to reading mine yet but I do not remember it from the main story. also the cooking show chapter being mentioned has me becoming the personification of a question mark because ? ?? I could have sworn that the manga took place after idolish7 got big and famous (and took the 新人賞 at least???? which is still before black or white but that's when the first chapter starts and heck if they have time to get to a deserted island before christmas), so why is it being referenced before WHAT I ASSUME IS THE FIRST BLACK OR WHITE THAT IDOLISH7 AND TRIGGER ARE BOTH PARTICIPATING IN
I accidentally closed out of the chat and now I have to wait for the dialogue to flow all over again
on a slightly less grumpy note, these chats definitely take place after riku and ten's manga/light novel chats! to make things a bit more depressing, that probably explains why riku gets so excited at the prospect of ten being the one to suggest this, because he probably hasn't heard anything from ten ever since their magazine interview conversation thingy so from riku's perspective it's like FINALLY

3. oh! something else to mention is that as you're reading this chat (and the other CD bonus chats), you should keep in mind the member geography; mitsuki, iori, and tamaki are all in the dorm, sougo and nagi are together and on their way back to the dorm, and riku and yamato are eating sushi! I found myself getting confused (especially later on) when sometimes one character would, like, reply via rabicha to something they heard another character say IRL
also, that's why nagi is live broadcasting sougo's ridiculousness and yamato's like riku stop trying to look at my screen (LOL)
fyi, trigger's all sitting together in the same waiting room iirc!
4. ryuu only just arrived on my screen please save me. anyways, I've been consistently translating "笑" as "LOL" when it shows up, and I think I'd been doing the same with translating "www" as "lol"? I remember doing that for some of nagi's ordinary days chats, but since I've started to see characters using varying #s of "w"s to express their laughter and I don't really want to deal with how to make a single w a lol and a triple www a loool or lolll
so I'll go back and fix nagi's chats later but for now going forward I think I'm just going to leave "w"s in the text as w's! for anyone who isn't familiar, it's basically text slang for laughter or grinning

so as I wait for things to load again, I'm just going to say that I'm so confused by the leg situation on secret night's cover and I can only conclude that ryuu is bent at a 45 degree angle and sticking his legs straight forward

6. okay so I definitely do not know enough about tale of genji to accurately translate this but from what I can tell, there are a lot of characters with the character for jar/pot (壺) in their names, who happen to be court ladies. so my guess is that tamaki is reading tale of genji and picking up on the pattern that hey a lot of these characters have the word "jar" in their names, is this a story about jars?? hence why iori is like oh my god for the last time they're people not pottery
tamaki's mistake and iori's correction (and then riku's correctly guessing that it's genji monogatari) make more sense in japanese, I think, so I've just decided to cut my losses and translate it literally for now. there really isn't any good equivalent in english, but it'd be sort of almost be like if tamaki were reading pride and prejudice and thought the main characters were fishers because they have the word "net" in their last names. it's not a perfect analogy for obvious reasons, but it's the same sort of misconception?
the reason riku can pick up on it being tale of genji is probably because he's familiar with the character names and general plot, so "pot name" and "court ladies" and "studied in high school" = tale of genji according to riku nanase apparently! I think iori said otsukaresama just to be polite since riku'd just arrived in the chatroom but it makes me laugh to think of iori being like "finally someone gets it"
7. yamato literally refers to it as "rotating sushi" even though I think what he's talking about is the sushi conveyor belt setup thing. I don't actually know what you're supposed to call it in english but I'll probably call it a sushi-go-round because that makes me laugh
kampyo is a dried gourd that you see in futomaki; I don't actually know much about it, but based on the context I'm guessing yamato is saying it's okay because he'll eat cheap food so even if riku bankrupts him, his eating cheap food will balance things out?
I also don't know much about sushi conveyor belts but my guess is that ones with two pieces to a plate are probably going to be lower quality/cheaper fish, whereas ones with only one piece are higher quality and more expensive? riku's approaching it from the perspective of being like "one must be cheaper than two", though!

9. took huge liberties w/ mitsuki and tsumugi's exchange about gaku; first of all, gaku's dakaretai otoko #1 is such a pain to translate? second of all, mitsuki says "腐っても", which literally means "even if he's rotten", but in this case I think mitsuki is using it as the lead in for a proverb that basically means quality is still quality even if it isn't ideal. tsumugi however is waving her gaku yaotome defense squad flag and objecting to mitsuki referring to gaku as "rotten", though!
but since writing "even if he's rotten" in english has a bit too negative of an implication, I changed tsumugi's response to make it read as her objecting to mitsuki dissing gaku's quality!
10. tsumugi and a few other characters refer to TRIGGER as TRIGGER-san to be polite, but I feel like that looks kind of awkward so I've left it out for now and tried to imply the politeness through the rest of their words....
11. sougo says "E" (or "eh") but since it seems like something got caught in sougo's throat (he's normally such a fast typist too.....) I changed it to "O"
you can pretend it's the lead-in to an "omg" if u like
12. yamato almost says "our fates are intertwined" when referring to trigger
13. normally I eyeball the ellipses but I'm always careful to put exactly the right number of exclamation points so nanase riku is in fact that excited
I don't think that you're supposed to use まくり in the way that riku uses it, so I've made his english look a bit funky to prompt iori to say "go back to grammar school"
14. sougo references his 心の準備 which literally translates as "preparing his heart", but other characters also consistently refer to his 心の準備 and so I've translated it in a way that's easier to use it as a noun.
he sounds so strained oh my god meanwhile we have riku being like "why this" but also trying to be nice and polite
15. every time I read this chat I lose it over yamato and nagi playing newscasters for riku and sougo's antics ALSO THIS CHAT IS SO LONG GOODNESS GRACIOUS
16. tamaki's complaint about sougo reads almost identically to his login bonus line that's like "you're about as special as ousama pudding" only instead it's "you're about as difficult to get as these pots"
17. iori's brocon patience level is at an all time low in this chat
18. tamaki refers to ten's dancing as being 'kyukyu' and I am at 18 translation notes and cannot be bothered to look up what the appropriate onomatopoeia is. maybe another day......
19. nagi refers to mitsuki and iori as the "izumi brothers" in english and I feel like he's likening them to the mario brothers or something
