GAKU YAOTOME / ORDINARY DAYS : PART 2
Dec. 5th, 2015 11:53 am【GAKU】: Because you seem like you're busy. Don't push yourself too hard and do your best.
【GAKU】: Thanks for all your hard work. Sorry for contacting you so early this morning.
【TSUMUGI】: Not at all! Thank you for all of your hard work!
【GAKU】: Tsumugi, do you have work today?
【TSUMUGI】: Yes. I'm at a TV station for IDOLiSH7's work.
【GAKU】: Is that so. Around when will you get off?
【TSUMUGI】: There's a radio recording tonight, and so after the underage members have been returned home, it'll be around until the date changes.
【GAKU】: It must be rough going until so late at night.
【TSUMUGI】: It's much more difficult for the members, though! Aren't you busy as well, Gaku-san?
【GAKU】: No, actually, I'm off from the afternoon today. Right now we're settling the style of the new song.
【TSUMUGI】: So you're off for half a day, then!
Please take your time and rest leisurely to remove your fatigue!
【GAKU】: I was thinking that if you had a break, Tsumugi, then we could maybe go and get something to eat, but
【TSUMUGI】: Eh? With me?
【GAKU】: Who else is there (LOL)
【GAKU】: It's fine, though.
Next time I'll be sure to hold the schedule down ahead of time.
【TSUMUGI】: Mine, you mean?
【GAKU】: Because you seem like you're busy. Don't push yourself too hard and do your best.
【TSUMUGI】: For a star to be holding down a manager's schedule, it's a bit funny in how it seems inverted LOL
【GAKU】: Does it?
【GAKU】: Don't do something funny like this with anyone else.
【TSUMUGI】: Unfortunately........
【GAKU】: I see. Another time.
【TSUMUGI】: Together with Kujo-san and Tsunashi-san, as well?
【GAKU】: Would you prefer if they came along, too?
【GAKU】: It's fine, though.
Next time I'll be sure to hold the schedule down ahead of time.
【TSUMUGI】: Mine, you mean?

t/n:
1. okay so the title was "気になるあの子のスケジュール" so first of all for once it's a rabbit chat title that is just as long in japanese as it is in english!! second of all since the "that kid" in the title is probably definitely tsumugi, it probably would have been simpler to say "curious about her schedule", but...... gaku's tone in this chat totally feels like he's trying to arrange a playdate, he uses grammar patterns and phrasings that totally feel like what you'd hear from like a really shy 10 year old asking their friend to come over to their house and play over the phone LOL
so I made the title seem kinda kid-ish to match
2. I've gotten so used to translating "otsukaresama" as "thank you for all of your hard work" that I forget to point out when it's not necessarily being used in the literal thank you way.... in this case I think it's meant to (first of all) imply that time passed between the last chat and this chat, by implying that gaku went and met w/ his manager or something and has returned to apologize for waking up at 6 in the morning to be like "gotta message tsumugi to make sure she didn't MISUNDERSTAND ME"
how many telephone poles do you think gaku yaotome walks into while he's messaging tsumugi
3. gaku might be asking when the program idolish7 is at the TV station for will go on air (he says 上がる), but I think either way what gaku is trying to ask is when will tsumugi be done with work (see also: trying to arrange a playdate) even if he's asking about when idolish7 goes up instead of when tsumugi will be free (for the playdate)
the main difference is just a question of how subtle gaku is trying to be, I think!
4. tbh the most important thing about this chat was learning that tamaki and iori get sent back to the dorms early so they can go to sleep at reasonable hours. at first I was laughing over the mental image of those two having a stricter bedtime just because, and like, no wonder iori's like "I'll wait to talk about being involved with the management until I'm an adult and can stay up past 8:30", and then I wondered if it was maybe because of growth phases (but does tamaki yotsuba need to get any taller), and then it occurred to me that it might be because.... tamaki and iori could have school in the morning..... so it'd be a problem if they were out working past midnight and then had to get up for school
(but for the record, 未成年 could also be including riku and nagi!)
by the date changing, tsumugi's referring to past midnight!
5. I'm still not sure if 振りを合わせる is meant to refer to matching dance moves, or matching the style/mood of the song......... I translated it as dance moves in both ryuu and ten's chats, but I've translated it as the latter in this chat to further emphasize how uncertain I am....... so please keep in mind that it's referring to the same thing across all chats!
which would mean that tsumugi is practically messaging all (近くの噂の) three guys from trigger simultaneously.
6. I feel so bad for gaku translating this chat
7. the piece about the schedule was a bit hard to translate because gaku doesn't have to specifically imply it's tsumugi's (he can just refer to 'schedule' w/o needing any sort of adjective or article and it works because of the implications), but in english usually you'd directly say "yours" or "mine" when you talk about that sort of thing! so trying to translate gaku's line w/o directly referring to tsumugi (so that she could come back and ask for clarification on it being hers)
8. at first I laughed at gaku being like "well who else would I be talking to" because I thought he was making a crack at how the chat is just the two of them so who else would he be trying to ask on a playdate. the ousama pudding sticker from earlier??
then it occurred to me that he could also be saying that there's no other girl he'd ask out for a meal besides tsumugi and I was like oh.
I still think it could go either way, though!
9. I was very troubled on how to translate gaku's last line without completely launching it over into overprotective boyfriend territory because although yes it is very overcontrolling bf of him to say "yo don't let anyone else try to boss your schedule around besides me" (gaku's perceived rivalry w/ i7 is showing), I think that in japanese he's not quite trying to dictate what tsumugi can or can't do
also, just the phrasing! when gaku talks about 'something funny' he's referring to how tsumugi said that having the idol as the one controlling the manager's schedule, rather than the other way around, was funny, but I'm not sure if that really got conveyed with my translation.....
