YAMATO NIKAIDO / I7 ACADEMY : PART 4
Dec. 2nd, 2015 06:42 am【TSUMUGI】: From the producer's side, I've received a comment stating "Let's decide it ad hoc!"!
【YAMATO】: Aah, then, it's still not decided, huh.
【TSUMUGI】: Yamato-san, thank you for all of your hard work!
【TSUMUGI】: Today's filming of the scene involving your relationship with Iori-san was very stunning!
【TSUMUGI】: With the power of your presence, Yamato-san, when "the cool student council president lets down his guard for the very first time, and the school doctor forcefully revealed the concern about his body", your persuasiveness felt incredibly strong!
【YAMATO】: Glad to hear it.
It happened again where whatever Ichi's concern about his body is got dragged out, so in the end what kind of setting is it?
【TSUMUGI】: From the producer's side, I've received a comment stating "Let's decide it ad hoc!"!
【YAMATO】: Aah, then, it's still not decided, huh.
【YAMATO】: Even so, Ichi's pretty incredible.
Even though there was a substantial number of serious lines, there weren't any NGs, and he wasn't nervous and kept a cool face through it.
【TSUMUGI】: That's because Iori-san can smoothly handle anything with ease. Although he's younger than me, there are a lot of things I respect about him.
【YAMATO】: Well, rather than calling him interesting, he's a pretty complicated guy.
That'd be where his charm lies, though.
【TSUMUGI】: Iori-san is complicated?
So that's how you think of him, then, Yamato-san...!
【TSUMUGI】: Normally, what sort of relationship do you and Iori-san have?
【YAMATO】: If something happens, he'll come and rely on me, but that's about it?
Other than that, at times when I won't work he'll come and scold me, too.
【YAMATO】: Ichi's smart and he's clever, but he's still a teenager and he has some naive aspects, so onii-san's still gentle when interacting with him.
【YAMATO】: Ichi's that sort of type, though, so I wonder if he isn't a lurker at school, too—.
【YAMATO】: Since Mitsu had a lot of friends, I'm sure he must've been jealous.
【TSUMUGI】: I can hardly imagine Iori-san being envious of someone, though.........
Perhaps it's possible that Iori-san has concerns of his own.
【TSUMUGI】: What aspects of Iori-san are complicated?
【YAMATO】: Even though he's that multi-talented, he doesn't have any sorts of wants or desires for himself, maybe.
【YAMATO】: Ichi likes supporting or helping people, you know.
Like Riku and Mitsu, and you too, manager.
【YAMATO】: But, well, if you think of it from the side of the person being helped, you're being told by someone who can do anything much better than you can to do this or that, so up until now, wouldn't he have had a lot of people who think of him as being depressing?
【YAMATO】: That's why fundamentally speaking, no matter what sort of situation he's in, Ichi, he probably doesn't ever go out and try to make friends.
【TSUMUGI】: Do you have any funny stories about Iori-san?
【YAMATO】: A while ago I saw him with a suuper happy-looking face, and I feel like he might've been stroking Kinako's head, but it was only for a split second, so I might've mis-seen it?
【YAMATO】: Ichi's that sort of type, though, so I wonder if he isn't a lurker at school, too—.

t/n:
1. tsumugi's third line in this chat nearly sent me to an early grave for a plethora of reasons that basically boil down to "I hate quoting in japanese"
anyways, the concern about iori's body (baldness?) was referenced in tamaki's first i7a chat! from what I remember, a concern about iori's body becomes the catalyst for iori and tamaki (who were childhood friends) to go their separate ways and come to be on opposite sides of the Anime Vs. Yami no Chikara debate, and that's pretty much all that's specified about it. tsumugi tells tamaki that it hasn't been decided yet, and apparently.... It Still Hasn't Been Decided!
translating tsumugi's line that basically boiled down to "when stuco pres-kun LET DOWN HIS GUARD AND OPENED HIS HEART suddenly the evil school doctor swooped in and, like, emotionally blackmailed him I think" (so basically all of the fanart you see of vampire sougo getting manipulated and blackmailed by evil school doctor yamato should actually have iori in sougo's place, apparently) was the nail in my coffin and my translations from thereon out became considerably more yolo
listen, I spent three hours struggling over that line, and I'm still not happy with it,
2. the powers of the cosmos are urging me to hurry up and translate the ordinary days just so they're finished, but in the meantime, in iori's second (I think) ordinary days chat he refers to kinako as "that incredibly fluffy thing" or something similar. "that marshmallow-like thing". the fact that his chat refers to kinako in the first place.......
"kinako's head" does kinako have anything BESIDES a head
3. yamato says that iori must be "遠巻きにされて"'d, the first part literally translates as "surround at a distance" (but I'm not quite sure what that's meant to mean), while the second part implies that iori's being made to do that — i.e., that he has no friends and so he must lurk(/watch from afar)
4. yamato's iori personality analysis is interesting because he says it with a tone (it's the particles [shakes fist]) that implies he's trying to educate tsumugi on the intricacies of iori's personality that she wasn't already aware of, or that he's otherwise pointing things out that she wasn't aware of
but he's talking about parts of iori's personality that are very clear from his involvement in the management, and so they seem like Obvious Iori Personality Traits to the player, but when you think about it, the only characters who have really made that clear are 1. iori (general demeanor, "I can't help it if I don't know of any ways to play with someone other than offering advice", "since I could be involved in the management I'm very thankful", etc.), 2. mitsuki ("what that guy wants to do is support others"), and 3. maybe riku, since he says stuff like "what iori does is really similar to what my brother did, maybe he's been looking after me this entire time", WHICH IS OK GRANTED LIKE HALF THE CAST BC SMALL GAME, BUT,
I can't say for certain about nagi off the top of my head (I think he talks about iori in his 4th i7a chapter though so I'll get there eventually), but sougo for example says he's fond of iori a lot, but never really mentions that he thinks iori is the kind of person who wants to support others. sorry sougo I'm really throwing you under the bus here but you really dropped the ball on your iori analysis
so basically, it shows that yamato pays a lot of attention to iori (or just the members in general, really), for him to pick up on something that really only the people '''closest''' to iori have realized?
[takes a step back] ok but please be aware that I just wrote four (4) paragraphs based on an analysis of exactly one (1) sentence ending on yamato's part
5. I'm bitter that yamato nikaido beat me to the iori analysis table but what he's saying is very important I think! basically, yamato's theorizing that iori must have had a lot of people think of (or outright tell him) that he's a depressing person — the reason being, for the person iori's trying to support (it's v. telling of yamato that he thinks of it from this perspective too wtf), it feels almost like iori's unintentionally reminding them that they aren't as good at things as he is, or else, there are those sorts of indignant feelings like, "well if I could do it as well as you can then I'd do it that well in the first place" —, yamato's theory is basically (have u ever noticed that I use the word 'basically' a lot) that iori's subconsciously holding himself away from interacting with other people or trying to befriend them because he thinks he'll be thought of as depressing
which explains why iori's #1 concern w/ being in a unit with riku was "if I'm there he won't be able to perform as well" (if I'm there I will literally be a depressant for him)
now if only yamato DID SOMETHING with all of his keen observations
6. it's been a while since he pulled the onii-san card
【YAMATO】: Aah, then, it's still not decided, huh.
【TSUMUGI】: Yamato-san, thank you for all of your hard work!
