IORI IZUMI / I7 ACADEMY : PART 3
Dec. 1st, 2015 01:21 am【TSUMUGI】: So it's a carrot and stick, then........
【IORI】: Instead of using words to explain things to Yotsuba-san, it's faster to appeal to his stomach.
【TSUMUGI】: Thank you for all of your hard work on the filming!
Perhaps it's thanks to how you're currently enrolled in school, but a high schooler-esque quality came through in your acting, Iori-san!
【IORI】: Thank you.
【TSUMUGI】: When it comes to being a student, Tamaki-san is one, as well.
The two of you are attending the same school, but what sort of a relationship do you and Tamaki-san have, Iori-san?
【IORI】: The feeling of being members in the same idol group, as well as classmates at the same school.
【TSUMUGI】: Do you talk to each other frequently while at school?
【IORI】: He spends a great deal of time asleep, after all.
He wakes up around the lunch break and invites me to lunch, but that's about the extent of it.
【TSUMUGI】: The two of you eat lunch together?
【TSUMUGI】: You get along well, then!
【IORI】: Yotsuba-san simply acts over-familiar.
【IORI】: Rather than calling him childish, Yotsuba-san has a certain laziness to him.
So that he doesn't run late, at school I manage his schedule.
Considerably strictly.
Even if he starts to complain, if I offer him snacks his mood will improve.
【TSUMUGI】: So it's a carrot and stick, then........
【IORI】: Instead of using words to explain things to Yotsuba-san, it's faster to appeal to his stomach.
【TSUMUGI】: That's what I'd expect from your analysis capability, Iori-san!
【IORI】: Well, I've already said this one way or another, but for having someone to talk to, I'm enjoying a livelier school life compared to my previous school.
I owe that to Yotsuba-san.
【TSUMUGI】: Do you not have any other friends?
【IORI】: Wouldn't Yotsuba-san have a few?
Personally, I prefer to stay at a safe level of intermingling, though.

【TSUMUGI】: That's a surprise!
【IORI】: Even though Yotsuba-san spends most of his time staggering around by himself, when it comes to meals he suddenly wants to have someone else present.

1. why do so few people talk about how difficult どうも is to translate — it's another one of those phrases that has..... a different meaning depending on the situation, and it gets lumped in with all of the other "thank you"s in japanese when written in english, rip...
2. tamaki sleeps so much. is this why he's so tall. because he's a growing boy. it makes me wonder if it's just meant to illustrate his bad habits (i.e., late night gaming), or if there's something else up with that
isn't there always something else up with that
3. OKAY IORI SAYS "COMPARED TO HIS PREVIOUS SCHOOL" AND I THINK THAT IS the closest I have gotten to seeing anything that even remotely resembles "we transferred", so! this is a very commemorative moment....
.... it's kind of sad that iori is like "yes I have someone to talk to now [talks to them by fussing over them]"
sasuga iorin......
4. "livelier school life" probably looks very strange, but ok, hear me out, the alternative was "livelier school existence" or "livelier school activities"
I could have switched out 'livelier' for 'bustling' (.... bustling-ier????) or 'busier', but I thought busier didn't have quite as positive a connotation and even though this is iori being like "WELL I ALREADY SAID THIS (no you didn't) BUT I GUESS HAVING SOMEONE TO TALK TO ISN'T ALL THAT BAD" (I'm exaggerating, he was actually refreshingly upfront aside from the "this is something I've totally already sort of basically said" thing)
5. iori's thing about his friends sounds kind of like iori speak for "I don't have many friends" (poor kid....), but it's phrased a bit strangely and so it looks basically like he's saying he tends to abstain from excessive socializing? I dunno
I can't quite tell if iori is using a polite implication to say that yes tamaki has other friends but he comes to eat lunch w/ iori anyways, or if iori is assuming that tamaki must have other friends without actually being certain of it, but I'd lean towards the latter as being an Iori-ish Thing To Do™
