【RIKU】： When I was a kid, once I licked a pill like it was candy and it tasted sweet at first,
But then all of a sudden it got super bitter and the bitter taste stayed in my mouth for the entire day.

1. trying to clear out my received chat backlog before I start going around asking people for more chats, so! as with the previous margaret chapters, this chat was provided by twitter user berselium! thank you again so much, I'm sorry it took me so long to get around to posting this!
2. I went a bit more dramatically with my translations for this chat because ya'll know I'm a mezzo fangirl deep at heart, so there are several instances where I've taken a few liberties with the wording and made my translations a bit less than literal! I'll try to still make note of any original meanings that I think are important, though.
3. did I mention that I was being perpetually haunted by otsukaresama in these chats? I think I mentioned I was being perpetually haunted by otsukaresama in these chats
4. the exchange between tamaki and riku is so cute (in japanese tamaki specifies that sougo is on his bed on the opposite side of the room but that was too many on's in one sentence for me....) because riku is, like, filled with genuine concern for tamaki being like "I can't go any further, get the ousama pudding man to dance at my funeral"
(the reason tamaki is dying is because he got horribly motion sick from looking at his phone while they were in transit)
5. sougo says otsukaresama twice — the first one is probably as a general salutation/announcement of his presence, while the second one is meant to specifically address each member of the chat and if tamaki based his rankings off of the order in which sougo greets people, well
(to be fair, now that I think about it I think sougo's only greeting the people who showed up (read: returned from work) after he dropped out from the chat!)
6. so, the ioriku chorus........ riku does phrase his a bit more informally but they use almost the exact same sentence pattern otherwise LOL
also, Xでも is really hard to translate smoothly in english.........
7. nagi's line about mutual hatred had me so confused for the longest time until I realized he was speaking to sougo and referring to how he said that if sougo could watch anime in his hotel room, he would point his jealousy and loathing at him
so since there are no anime-esque seeming titles on the hotel's cable, they will not have to mutually hate each other
8. I wish there were a better way to translate ですよ (and all of the other single-syllable add ons to desu) because sougo's line totally feels like he's is trying to tattle on tamaki (hence why tamaki replies with DON'T TATTLE!!!) (ですよ is generally used when the speaker is trying to impress upon the idea that they're somewhat more in the know than the listener? that's.... kind of a bit of a heavy-handed way to describe it, but you tend see it a lot when people recommend things! tsumugi uses it a lot when she's trying to cheer people up in rabbit chats or reaffirm someone's good qualities and every time I'm like dang. this ain't translatable)
(so I try to pick good words to make do but it's tough!)
9. iori technically says he taught tamaki the skill (スキル) for how to skillfully (上手に) take powder medicine without allowing it to touch your tongue (I don't have a sweet tooth, iori says. bitter foods are a-ok. I can even drink black coffee, he claims), but that.... just looks repetitive in english.
10. riku's medicine memory actually makes me sad because I feel like as a kid he probably?? had to take a lot of medicine? and so trying to think of it as candy (especially if it was sweet) might've been a tactic he used to make taking medicine feel less depressing or like a chore, but then having it turn totally bitter on him.........
11. by group love I think they mean collectivism, basically! I mean, it's pretty self-explanatory, but in this case it's putting other people first, hence why everyone is like. shocked and awed by tamaki being selfless
he's a good kid!!
12. riku writes tamaki and sougo's names in hiragana (normally he'll write them in kanji), so the implication is that he's dragging them out or like? specifically enunciating them? I can kinda visualize like a singsong kinda voice
anyways I think the chronology is a bit confusing, so here's my general impression of it!
at first I thought riku was trying to, like, appeal to tamaki and sougo to get them to be honest with each other and address their horrible codependent ways, but it seems I was overestimating nanase riku.......
the fact that sougo interjected with an "eh?" did throw me off a bit, though!
13. the live broadcast nagi is referring to is [mitsuki voice] you're fighting via chat even though you're sitting right next to each other?
at the time, nagi was like "ah yes, they are livetweeting their fight"
live-rabbiting?? what sound does a rabbit make
14. tsumugi's yoroshiku (with a nanitozo thrown in too) is a bit tough to translate contextually, but basically the driving meaning behind it is that she's apologizing for inconveniencing the members and asking them to treat her kindly even though she is majorly inconveniencing them.
15. tamaki literally says he's been resurrected
I guess he really was in a lot of pain.....................
16. sougo says 安心して and so I don't really like translating it as "don't worry" because usually I'd use that phrase if it's for 心配しないで (or 気にしないで), but writing something like "be at ease" or "calm down" looks.... slightly more heavy-handed than I want it to, even though sougo is being pretty heavy-handed! I'm laughing
17. seventeen translation notes?? I'm losing control of my life..... anyways, on this episode of "how should I translate sankyuu this time",

I am not sure what tamaki means by talking about not being able to defeat an event boss, at first I was thinking he meant whoever was in charge at the live broadcast and so I was looking up different readings for 倒す and coming back with this really strange idea that tamaki tries to 1v1 his producers every chance he gets, but
tbh I think.... he's referring to one of his smartphone games....... and saying he can't beat the boss for an event........ which would maybe be why he was still playing his game and got motion sick?
