IORI IZUMI / HALLOWEEN : PART 3
Nov. 17th, 2015 06:45 pm【IORI】: When he made omelette rice for everyone, he only went and stuck flags in mine and Yotsuba-san's.
【TSUMUGI】: So cute...!
【TSUMUGI】: Iori-san, thank you for all of your hard work on the MV filming!
Since there was a different atmosphere from usual, you were incredibly stunning, Iori-san!
I'm looking forward to the MV's completion!
【IORI】: Manager, thank you for all of your hard work.
It seems like we've created something that surpassed our original image.
As expected, Nikaido-san's acting ability is magnificent.
【TSUMUGI】: That's true!
【TSUMUGI】: What do you and Yamato-san normally talk about, Iori-san?
【IORI】: We don't really talk about work at all.
That onii-san won't ever reveal his true feelings by any means, and so he won't talk about private matters in any depth, either.
It's always just pointless idle talk.
【TSUMUGI】: What do you mean by idle talk?
【IORI】: I want to eat tha—at, or it's ho—ot, or what a pa—ain. Those sorts of conversations.
【IORI】: Well, even if he normally lacks spirit, when it comes down to it, he pulls the other members along as the leader, so I'm relying on him to some extent.
【TSUMUGI】: Which aspects of Yamato-san do you like?
【IORI】: Rather than "like", if there's an aspect of his that I appreciate, then for example, even if Nanase-san were to fall, and I were to fall, and Nii-san and the others were to fail, as long as Yamato-san stays steady, I feel like IDOLiSH7 will be alright, thanks to him.
【IORI】: Conversely, when he's in a poor mood, everyone else is affected by it, so I'd like for him to realize that.
【IORI】: Fundamentally, he's a person with good sense and so I do place my trust in him.
【IORI】: Out of all of the members aside from Nanase-san, or in some cases, exceeding Nanase-san, he treats me like a child the most, though. I'd appreciate it if he could stop that.
【TSUMUGI】: So he treats you like a child, then.
For example, what does he do?
【IORI】: When he made omelette rice for everyone, he only went and stuck flags in mine and Yotsuba-san's.
【TSUMUGI】: So cute...!
【TSUMUGI】:
【TSUMUGI】: What do you find difficult about Yamato-san?
【IORI】: The fact that rather than the type who pretends to have no motivation but actually does have motivation, he essentially has no motivation.
He's the type whose engine is exceedingly slow to start.

【IORI】: When he made omelette rice for everyone, he only went and stuck flags in mine and Yotsuba-san's.
【TSUMUGI】: So cute...!
【TSUMUGI】:
【TSUMUGI】: What is it that you'd like to see from Yamato-san?
【IORI】: I'd like him to be more proactive in taking drama work.
【IORI】: The same goes for theatre and film work.
Why is he so reluctant, I wonder?
【IORI】: Fundamentally, he's a person with good sense and so I do place my trust in him.

t/n:
1. whenever someone uses the word "素晴らしい" I always want to just write it as subarashii because the word itself seems so understatedly dramatic to me. subarashii......
2. iori literally refers to yamato as "that onii-san" and I........... I feel like he's somewhat half-mocking, half-enabling yamato (in his backhanded iori way) but either way, stop enabling yamato nikaidou
3. whenever one member imitates another member it always makes me laugh, but iori's [yamato voice] style drawl is very on point, I would say....
4. "I want him to take on more drama work" "why does he seem to hate it so much?" why didn't iori have to take the brunt of the Yamato Cold Shoulder — actual t/l note but the literal translation is more like "why is he so ready to hate it", but I don't think the meaning is quite meant to be that yamato Hates Drama Work, but more that he's.... really opposed to....... like, exerting himself. and talking about his acting.
but we all knew that already, didn't we......... looks at the sky
5. there were a few points where I broke the sentences up in places that they weren't originally broken in japanese in order to retain the general flow. the line where he references riku was pretty tricky to translate and retain the flow because iori doesn't mention the part about being treated like a child until the very end of the sentence, but the basic gist of it (I think) is that from iori's perspective the people who treat him like a kid the most are riku and yamato — usually riku holds the #1 spot but in extreme cases yamato can become the worst offender and surpass True Nanase-san Brand Kodomoatsukai. and iori would like it if he could stop that.
6. not only does yamato treat tamaki and iori like kids, but he goes out of his way to single them out as being The Kids. I can't believe this. dad makes dinner for the entire family, but only does the decoden lunch style for iori and tamaki.......... can you imagine how embarrassing that would be
in other news, I can't tell what tsumugi's intended meaning of the flaming ousama pudding sticker is??? like, as far as I can tell tamaki (and iori, and pretty much everyone else who uses it) uses it when he feels like he is literally being lit on fire with thinly bridled rage "tamaki-san please check the costumes" "I'm eating [flaming ousama pudding]" but with tsumugi I feel like she uses it more when she's like?? blushing? or just feeling strong emotion (but not necessarily negative) in general
either way, something does not add up
7. iori's perception of idolish7: "nanase-san, yours truly, nii-san, and ..... [looks at smudged writing on hand] .... otaku pudding man"
incidentally iori does say "yamato-san" in the script rather than his typical "nikaidou-san", so pretend there's a big [sic] right there in the text LOL
8. iori says that he'd "like to stop that" (止めて欲しい) regarding yamato's sullenness affecting the other members, and I'm.... not really sure what the subject/verb is meant to translate as! at first I thought he was saying that he wanted yamato to stop being in a bad mood ever, but that seems a bit too unreasonable for iori's standards — it could be that he wants yamato to be a bit more aware of how apparently he is the Real Moodmaker in idolish7, and that's the translation I've gone with, but. it could also be that iori wants to stop his train of thought there, before he visualizes a horrifying reality where idolish7 crumbles into pieces because yamato falls into complete disarray, and so the proper translation would be "I want to stop there"?
personally the third one is my preferred interpretation, but the rest of iori's line doesn't quite carry that same connotation of Impending Theoretical Doom imo, so I've gone w/ the second one for now!
