【TSUMUGI】: At times like these, I think it'd be good to borrow Sogo-san's strength and form a united front with him.
【TAMAKI】: I get it. That's smart. Hold on.

【TAMAKI】: Let's play shiritori

【TSUMUGI】: What happened? りす

【TAMAKI】: We're on standby so I'm free すいか

【TSUMUGI】: Wasn't Sogo-san together with you? かもめ

【TAMAKI】: I don't have anything to talk about with Sou-chan めだか

【TSUMUGI】: That's not the case at all!
What if you tried starting the conversation, Tamaki-san? かめ

Also, stop ending things with 'me'

【TSUMUGI】: What he likes about you, Tamaki-san? Or something

【TAMAKI】: I tried asking.
He totally lost his composure, but he did talk about stuff.

The subject's embarrassing so it's a secret.
【TAMAKI】: Anyways, didn't I say to stop ending things with 'me'. メス

t/n:

1. OKAY so I'm not sure how much about shiritori is common knowledge, but. basically it's a word game, kind of like concentration or word association (that you'd play in english), only it's based off of syllables instead of common themes! (although sometimes you play shiritori with themes to make it more difficult!) basically player A says a word, and player B says a word that starts with the syllable player A's word ended with, etc. you lose if you end a word in "n"! so I left all of the words in japanese because I can't be bothered to try to come up with an all-english alternative to the words tamaki and tsumugi were using (especially given some of tamaki's later words, although I guess I could have gone the extra mile and looked for composers and musical terms to fit in.....).

I've left the shiritori parts in japanese and untouched in the translation for the sake of flow, but I'll put a list of the words and what they mean at the bottom of my translation notes! for the record, the 'me' that tamaki is referring to is め/メ. incidentally it is the same 'me' that you start mezzo forte/mezzo piano with. tamaki please

also, for the record! usually you start with "shiritori" -> so the next person has to start their word with "ri"! hence why tsumugi came back with 'risu'.

2. this entire chat is a goldmine of localization horror stories, but the content is so cute I've been wanting to translate it ever since I first unlocked it, even though I have no idea what to do with all of the halloween stories after translating them consecutively like that. anyways, tamaki wrote どふとえすきー and りおでじゃねいろ in hiragana, implying that he didn't necessarily realize that they were foreign words. speaking of どふとえすきー, I googled the phonetics and came back with dostoyevsky the russian novelist, I.... don't know how to pronounce russian words, so I'm not sure if you'd pronounce that similarly to "dofutoesuki". rio de janeiro is pretty obviously.... rio de janeiro, tho

3. when tamaki says that sougo "wound up saying a lot", the grammar that he uses implies that he's somewhat grateful to sougo for speaking so much? or like, that he appreciates it. くれる doesn't translate very well into english but basically tamaki's subtly hinting that sougo talking a lot is ideal, as opposed to sougo like.... shutting the conversation down..... or not really having anything to say in general. I mean, usually whenever sougo talks about tamaki he's like "we never have much to talk about... there's never much to say....."

tamaki also uses the same くれる grammar when he talks about asking sougo what he liked about him (pls), although in this case I think it's a bit more obvious that someone telling you what they like about you is... kind of a thing you should appreciate? so.
