The costume designs for IDOLiSH7's new single have been completed!
【TSUMUGI】： They were made using a chess knight as inspiration, as well.

Now that you've said it's a chess knight, I can definitely see the resemblance. It's a wonderful costume.
【TSUMUGI】： Sogo-san, you can play chess?
【SOGO】： I know how to play, at the very least.

【SOGO】： It's simple once you learn the rules. It's just like a jindori game, really.

【SOGO】： When I was a child, my father did.
He'd scold me frequently because my checkmates were too weak.
【SOGO】： That's right, now that I think about it.
【SOGO】： Maybe it's because I learned from my father, but now whenever I play against someone, they tell me that I have a rotten playstyle.
【SOGO】： So, it might be better if you learned from someone else.
【TSUMUGI】： There's no way that you could be thought of as a rotten person, Sogo-san!
What sort of strategy do you use for them to call you that?
【SOGO】： Rather than playing to win, ..... it's more like I make it so my opponent absolutely can't win, causing them to grow impatient and begin to lose pieces, so in the end I wind up winning.

1. sougo's original line is this kind of weird long thing with lots of ttes that basically goes "[once I heard it was a chess knight] -> [I thought, "I get it"]". there's probably a much more efficient way to translate that into english than what I did by changing the meaning around like that, but the overall gist is that it's a costume where once you know it's designed after a chess knight, it makes sense.
2. jindori (陣取り) is a word that means "childrens' game in which the aim is to occupy the other players' base", apparently! that's long and drawn out so I just left it as jindori (I'm assuming it's kind of like a genre) and stuck a translation note down here.
3. the line about weak checkmates uses 甘い -- it means like, naive, half-hearted, or being too sensitive of the other person in this case, I think? the original word sougo uses instead of checkmate is 詰め, which means more like endgame and less like checkmate, so the real meaning might be something more like "he'd scold me frequently because I was too half-hearted in ending the game" or s/t....
4. the "rotten playstyle" thing is in japanese literally "I'm told that my chess has a bad personality" and, like, I feel like that makes sense? but I also feel like while it makes sense in japanese and if you think about it in english, it's still not the sort of thing you see said in english very often.
5. iori referenced sougo's playing style at one point and I remember being unsure about just who the bad person he was referring to was...... so, well, now it's a bit clearer, I guess.....
