1. OK, so, before I start translating this chat, *SLAMS HANDS DOWN ON TABLE* let's talk iori/tamaki dynamic
[iori voice] that's depressing
OK SO!!! honestly I could probably write a structured character essay about iori's relationship w/ the rest of the cast but my main point with why iori's dynamic w/ tamaki is so important to me basically boils down to two points: 1.) contrasting it with his other two prominent relationships (w/ riku and w/ mitsuki) 2.) looking at it while considering iori's personality trait of Chronic Meddling (there's a nicer way to phrase that)
ok so before I start a third paragraph with the leadin 'ok so', a quick recap of points 1 and 2 — iori's relationships w/ riku and mitsuki are both important in their own respects but both riku and mitsuki are older than iori and they both will use their age/seniority against him! it's almost always in an attempt to coddle him or be protective of him and so it almost always comes from a place of affection (even tho riku has done things like say "you're younger than me so don't boss me around!!" he also admits that he finds fighting w/ iori fun and I am willing to believe the feeling is mutual); I'm not trying to say that riku or mitsuki think less of iori because they treat him like he's younger because that's definitely not the case imo, but I also think it's pretty obvious that both riku and mitsuki (probably the 2 most prominent or important characters in iori's life) are very much aware that iori is younger than them and it shows through in their actions
point 2 is that iori has the kind of personality where he inherently finds meaning/enrichment via helping and supporting others! he very much wants to be a supportive presence in the lives of the people important to him but he has some mental blocks about reaching out (I think yamato did a p good job of outlining them in one of his i7a chats!) and so he can be kinda clumsy about expressing that desire of his but it's still very much a driving factor in a lot of the things he does!
I need a better segue that isn't ok so BUT ANYWAYS if you consider iori's relationship w/ tamaki, it's one where he has a peer (who's like four months younger than him but that's splitting hairs) who he can look after and support in True Iori Tsundere Fashion, because even though tamaki yotsuba is my sweet sunshine child who can do no wrong he is Full Of Wrongdoing and honestly.... could kinda use someone looking after him......, and that same peer is someone who's the same age/younger than him, and thus someone who Technically Can't (and honestly imo wouldn't because tamaki generally doesn't reference age dynamics and iirc he actually got mad at sougo for being like "I'm older so I know what's up" (me too tamaki), so!) and so therefore doesn't pull the age card on him whenever he tries to play mother hen. like yea there are times where tamaki pushes against iori's influence and obviously he hasn't exactly improved his act into being the model student ever since iori started monitoring him, but tamaki's at the very least willing to take iori's fussing and honestly he's pretty receptive to criticism! (tangent but it's interesting bc I feel like tamaki takes criticism pretty flat-on but he really Does Not React Well when he perceives the other party as being angry with him!)
basically iori and tamaki's dynamic has a lot of Balance to me and that is my Aesthetic, but mostly it's really important to me that iori has someone in his life who he can actually fret and fuss over without having them (benevolently) dismissing him for his age at the end of the day? LIKE DO NOT GET ME WRONG I think riku and mitsuki both have really good dynamics with iori because they treat him like a younger brother (or he is their younger brother) and that is also a Really Good Influence for isolated child iori izumi, but it also makes me sad to see iori trying to act like the mature caretaker for riku or mitsuki while the other side is like My Favorite IDOLiSH7 Moment Was The One Iori Acted Like An Immature Kid
like, ok, it's not like tamaki "iori is simple" yotsuba exactly extolls the image of iori being a mature caretaker but he never tries to shut iori down intentionally or unintentionally and that is Extremely Important To Me
(I could also make a similar argument about tsumugi's dynamic w/ iori being important for similar reasons but tbh I think it's pretty easy to fill in the blanks if that's ur jam!)
2. now that I've finally gotten that down on paper it's time for me to properly open this chat to actually read and translate it
3. tamaki mentions in one of his other chats (iirc it's his fifth i7a chapter) that he took pictures w/ girls or went to karaoke with them in return for getting treated to food in the past a lot!
4. "すぐ餌付けされるからいけないんですよ" was hard to translate because idk how to phrase ikenai when I am tired apparently........ the general meaning is that iori is somewhat chastising tamaki for selling his time for the cost of 1 (one) ousama pudding, tho!
5. tamaki is such a kid but he's also such a crusty and cynical old man and I keep talking about tamaki instead of iori wtf
6. 抱かれたい男 strikes again
I've seen a lot of other people translate this in better ways than I do but I'm tired and I can't remember which ones came from who!!!!! I should just go back to being silly and translating it as "I want to be held by him! No. 5" but it feels weird typing that into iori's line
7. as endearing as it is for iori to be like um don't ask my brother to give you the birds and the bees talk I would argue that out of the three adults mitsuki is PROBABLY the most qualified to give the talk without making a total mess of it????

14. here I thought iori was saying riku was pure (純感) but he was actually saying riku was insensitive (鈍感)
honestly I think riku is just being textbook naive by sharing the office phone number (I'm amazed if he has it memorised tbh?) when people ask for his contact address (but when is he appearing together w/ female talent, is riku in secret dramas, is this for singing variety shows, what is this) but iori uses a word (始末) that v. much makes it seem like iori thinks riku's being purposefully dull LOL
I mean.... it's not like he's giving them the rejection hotline...........
