【MITSUKI】: That's because summer gives you energy! It's hot, but there's tons of fun things to do!
Don't you think so too, manager?
【TSUMUGI】: When I'm with Mitsuki-san, I feel like I'd be energetic regardless of the season!

【TSUMUGI】: Mitsuki-san, thank you for all of your hard work!
Tomorrow's gravure photoshoot will be taking place at the location as planned, so let's give it our best!

【MITSUKI】: Got it!
【MITSUKI】: Nagi's getting really excited. He's been looking forward to swimming in the sea for a while now.

【TSUMUGI】: Nagi-san seems to have been suffering quite a bit from the summer heat!
【TSUMUGI】: He was even saying that he wanted to return to his home country, so it'd be nice if this could help him start to enjoy Japan's summers.

【MITSUKI】: No kidding!
It hit him so hard, it was pretty pitiful.
【MITSUKI】: You know the type, right? Those big, long-haired dogs you see lying on their sides with their tongues hanging out?
That's the sort of feeling he gave off.

【TSUMUGI】: He'd been so worn out from the summer heat, he'd even become homesick...
【TSUMUGI】: Hadn't Nagi-san tried coming to you for advice?

【MITSUKI】: I didn't do that much, though.
【MITSUKI】: It's just that when that guy gets depressed, he gets rea-lly depressed, so you start to feel bad just from looking at him.
【MITSUKI】: I thought I'd try to cheer him up by watching some Cocona DVDs with him, but it got to the point where suddenly, I could remember their lines. After I don't know how many episodes.

【TSUMUGI】: You really are kind, Mitsuki-san.
I think that Nagi-san's decision to stay here in Japan is thanks to you.

【MITSUKI】: That guy's really kept at it.
Some way or another, Nagi's pretty incredible.
【MITSUKI】: He left the country he grew up in and kept trying his best despite it.
【MITSUKI】: Which is why, after tomorrow's photoshoot finishes, I'm thinking I'll hang out with him!
【MITSUKI】: I think Riku's been really looking forward to it, too. Swimming in the sea.

【TSUMUGI】: Is that so?
【TSUMUGI】: Now that you mention it, Riku-san did say it would be his first time swimming in the sea!

【MITSUKI】: Seems that way.
【MITSUKI】: They're amateurs, but they're still excited. I can't just leave them alone.
【MITSUKI】: I don't hate it, either! Summer, or the ocean!

【TSUMUGI】: Mitsuki-san's image certainly screams "summer!", after all.

【MITSUKI】: That's because summer gives you energy! It's hot, but there's tons of fun things to do!
Don't you think so too, manager?

【TSUMUGI】: When I'm with Mitsuki-san, I feel like I'd be energetic regardless of the season!
【TSUMUGI】: I'll be relying on you again tomorrow, as well!

【MITSUKI】

t/n:

1. "海水浴" (lit. "sea bathing") is the term that kept popping up in this rabbit chat...... I had to look it up to see what it meant in japanese, and then I had to look to see if "sea bathing" was actually a thing that happened outside of japan.... which, apparently, it is! I mean, it's literally what it sounds like — bathing in the sea. swimming in the sea? I think the implication is that it has health benefits... either way, "sea bathing" sounds kind of silly imo. (or, inelegant, I guess?) so I decided to go with the (clearly much more elegant) alternative of "swimming in the sea". the only problem is that later, tsumugi uses the literal phrase "swimming in the sea" (as well as "sea bathing"), but...

2. the "gravure photoshoot" shows up a lot in the summer memories set; normally when you think of gravure models, you think of women, but in this case I guess it's... men in swimsuits? I really wish they would put on some shirts, but anyways. incidentally when I was looking up "sea bathing in japan", okinawa was one of the hit sites — so it's possible that the summer memories set takes place chronologically during their PV filming in okinawa for their debut single? it's also possible that it's completely unrelated, though! eta: I'm 99.9% sure it's completely unrelated because they're going back and forth between the beach and the dorms. RIP

3. I can't believe that mitsuki only comes in two speeds: "nagi, you look so gorgeous" and "nagi, you look like a dying dog". anyways, I messed with the sentence order and phrasing a bit to try to make it flow a bit better. mostly though I am very hung up on the image of comparing nagi to a heat-exhausted dog. poor thing......

4. instead of "it would be his first time swimming in the sea", tsumugi's line originally said the opposite: "riku-san said that he'd never had the experience of swimming in the sea before" -- even if I translated it more naturally as "Riku-san did say that he'd never swam in the sea before!", I didn't like the way that "swam in the sea" looked in the sentence, so I decided to switch it to say that "it would be his first time". mitsuki's line stayed the same, though; either way his saying "seems that way" to tsumugi's line makes sense, regardless of which way she phrases it.

5. the phrase that mitsuki keeps using is "浮かれてる" -- which is a word that can mean "to float", or "to make merry/be festive", or "to feel cut off from others". I'm.......... not sure...... which is his intended meaning................ so I kept going with "excited", but if it feels a bit off in the context, that's why.... in the second case when he's talking about riku and nagi, it was a bit tricky to translate because the original phrasing was "can't leave the two [excited] amateurs alone", but no matter how many times I looked at it, "excited amateurs" seemed very strange... it might have made more sense to phrase it as "they're excited, but they're still amateurs. I can't just leave them alone", but I felt like mitsuki's emphasis was moreso on the fact that they were excited than the fact that they were amateurs when it came to sea bathing? since the title of this rabbit chat is "moodmaker", after all, I decided to go with the mood-making aspect instead of the physical prowess aspect.

6. my little-known secondary nemesis after "otsukaresama" is "yoroshiku(/onegaishimasu)". it's not a troublesome phrase that jumps to mind because it's most commonly used in introductions and thus translatable as "I'm looking forward to working with you", or "please take care of me from here on out". but yoroshiku also gets used when you're doing something like relying on someone, or will be relying on them or asking them to do something. in a lot of senses it's sort of like the precursor to otsukaresama? you say yoroshiku when you ask someone to do something, and otsukaresama after they've done the thing for you. in this case, I decided to translate it differently in the two instances; the first one, I settled on "let's give it our best!", and in the second one I went for "I'll be relying on you". it's... definitely not as true to the original meaning, but I think it has the benefit of carrying a similar implication of tsumugi putting herself in the inferior position, so it's like a compromise, I guess?

7. mitsuki's rabbit kaomoji was, of course, originally a kinako graphic. I took the liberty of finding a rabbit emoji that was smiling in a similar manner as a placeholder until I find a better alternative!
I'M FINALLY REPLACING OLD KAOMOJIS W/ KINAKO STICKERS BUT IDR WHICH CHATS THEY CAME UP IN LOL

for some reason, this one took me a long time to translate.... I'm not sure if it's because it's longer, or because I took more liberties with the translation? either way, now I only have to translate one of tamaki's and I'll have at least one translated for every member! fwah
