TENN KUJO / ORDINARY DAYS : PART 5
Dec. 20th, 2015 02:07 am【TENN】: Isn't it just a case of mistaking someone for someone else. It's something that happens a lot.
【TSUMUGI】: It's just as you say...
【TSUMUGI】: Kujo-san, thank you for all of your hard work!
【TENN】: Thank you for all of your hard work.
【TSUMUGI】: Um, where are you currently?
【TENN】: Why?
【TSUMUGI】: Tonight was the night of IDOLiSH7's live performance, and there was gossip on SNS stating that your appearance, Kujo-san, had been sighted...!
【TSUMUGI】: If it happened to be the case that you were present, I wanted to give a word of thanks!
【TENN】: I didn't go.
【TSUMUGI】: Ah....... Is that so. That must be it...!
【TENN】: Isn't it just a case of mistaking someone for someone else. It's something that happens a lot.
【TSUMUGI】: It's just as you say...
I'm terribly sorry for contacting you over a misunderstanding!
【TSUMUGI】: By all means, please come and watch one day!
【TENN】: I won't go. Not until I can recognize that kid as an idol.
【TENN】: Was the live performance successful?
【TSUMUGI】: Yes! The guests were also very excited, and they were very happy!
【TENN】: That's good to hear.
【TSUMUGI】: Yes!

【TENN】: Persistent.
【TENN】:

t/n:
1. I would have thought that お忍び could just be "a disguise" but apparently if you stick the honorific it can mean traveling incognito, you learn something new every day!
2. I choked on something when tsumugi asked ten where he was because I had war flashbacks to iori's 5th ordinary days chapter and "where are you" "certainly not at a pet shop"
3. ten being like "mistaken identity sure is a thing that happens a lot" had me hissing because [looks @ yaotome gaku] Yes this is a Thing that sure is Legit Happening, this sure is an Identity that is Being Mistaken,
I've been so traumatized by this hecking plotline and I saw some info about the novel that says it's totally gaku's mom's side that he's helping out at?? ?? ?? ?? could totally be the soba place??? I hate yaotome gaku and I want him to go home??
in other news 見間違え is a huge pain to translate succinctly into english
4. I'm never really certain whether I can translate ライブ as "live" or if I should be adding "show" or "performance" onto it like I did in this chat.....
5. in unrelated news I think this might be the fastest I've ever unlocked a fifth chapter on a card? (I say fastest but it still took me a month LOL)
6. I think I've talked about my struggles in translating one word responses and my struggles with translating ten's blunt tone and the word "persistent" (しつこい) as it shows up in this chat is probably like the #1 prime example of my woe..... basically in japanese it's perfectly common and perfectly acceptable to make a sentence out of a single adjective, but it carries the connotation of "this is excessively [adjective]", without.... really needing to say specifically that it's excessive or needing to use any other words.
I added a "so" to the persistent in ten's second dialogue path, but that's not really the exact connotation imo; I mainly put it there because just writing "Persistent" looked weird. writing it by itself in his response to tsumugi works imo because she's saying "you might call me persistent" "persistent" and persistent sure does not look like a word anymore, but
rather than "so", it might be better to think of it as "too persistent" or "how persistent". usually I'll stick a 'how' in front of a single-adjective sentence but I thought I'd spice it up today!
7. SNS is short for social networking service, btw! I don't see it used as much in western fandoms but it basically refers to like facebook/twitter/weibo/etc.!
8. ok I have two things to say about ten's response in the first dialogue path and the first one is that he uses potential form so INTERPRET AS YOU WILL but I think it's basically implying that ten is waiting for riku to prove himself and make it so that he can accept him as an idol, rather than ten just being like *looks at the calendar* sure is a great day to not be recognizing riku as an idol
day 7777: kujou ten has yet to accept nanase riku as an idol
the second is that since we all know kujo ten is a terrible liar who really did go to i7's live, ........ does that mean he's recognized riku as an idol.........
thinks about ten saying "I had fun watching you. your debt*/repayment to me has been paid in full!" at black or white (*iirc riku said to ten at one point that he wanted to repay ten for always being his 'star' and all of the kindness he'd given riku as a child by showing ten an equally fun performance as a member of idolish7, so that's why it's a ''debt'' in that sense!)
starts crying
