【TSUMUGI】： So that's why Iori-san was desperately trying to contain his laughter, then...!

Today's showdown scene with Iori-san was incredibly stunning!
【RIKU】： Thanks!
It was all pretend, but seeing Iori getting blown away by my punches was funny...!
【RIKU】： Since we couldn't really brawl properly, they kept giving out NGs, but Iori even thanked me by saying, "Thanks to you, I've become the number one high school student who excels at back-jumping in the world."!
【TSUMUGI】： Th, that sounds more like sarcasm.....
Speaking of which, I saw Iori-san doing his absolute best to hold in his laughter earlier today; did something happen?
【RIKU】： The speech patterns for my role have kinda turned into a habit...
Even when we aren't filming, I keep accidentally calling them Iori-senpai or Mitsuki-sensei.
【RIKU】： So, when I'd called out to him while addressing him as Iori-senpai, a leading producers who had stopped by the studio got mad at me and told me, "Don't speak frankly to your senpai!"...
【RIKU】： I tried to explain that it wasn't the case, but it didn't really get across...
So in order to calm things over, I had to apologize and say, "Iori-senpai, please forgive me for not knowing my manners".
【TSUMUGI】： So that's why Iori-san was desperately trying to contain his laughter, then...!
【TSUMUGI】： You and Iori-san get along well, don't you!
【RIKU】： Do we really?
It feels like all he does is nag, but when we're together, it's still kinda fun.
【RIKU】： I only recently realized this, but even though Iori speaks so severely, the stuff he does is all pretty much the same as my brother.
Could it be, he's actually been looking after me this entire time?
【RIKU】： Iori's helped me out a lot, so I'm really grateful to him.
It'd be nice if he could be a bit less precocious, but I can't really imagine an Iori who isn't that way, though.
【RIKU】： For as strict as he is normally, whenever I get complimented by Iori, it makes me super happy!

【RIKU】： Thanks to that, I've gotten less wasteful, but there are still times when I wanna buy on impulse, after all—.

1. iori's """"thanks"""" to riku is kind of a mouthful in english but basically he's saying that he became the [#1 in the world] [high school student who is excelled at back-jumping] [thanks to riku]. it's tough to stick all of those adjectives together and have it make sense in english, but I tried... anyways, by back-jump, I'm pretty sure he basically just means the whole getting blown away by riku's punches thing. like, whenever riku punched him, he had to jump backwards as if he were being blown away. h-how cute
I think that the fact that iori says the line in the first place is kind of a callback to how he always refers to himself as like The Ultimate High School Student. I remember during the shaking the summer! event when I got iori's SSR he was like "shall I, the one who was known as the ultimate high school student, lend you a hand" and I was like well gosh iori
2. it's tough to convey the exact cultural nuances in english but basically "speaking frankly" = "speaking informally", so what riku was doing would have been A Huge Faux Pas if iori were actually his senpai. especially(?) since he was mixing formal and informal language, it probably looked especially sloppy.... ofc there are types like tamaki who speak frankly to Everyone, but
3. riku once again refers to iori as being namaiki (the same word used in fly away!) and once again I'm really... not sure how to translate it, "impertinent" really feels like too formal a word LOL. he also refers to iori as "tsun" in the same breath that he refers to mitsuki as "courteous/gracious/civil/etc." Incredible
4. tsumugi literally uses a word meaning "to be charmed by"

this is less a translation note and more just! a housekeeping note, but since I've noticed a lot of people have recently become aware of my translations, I'll be linking updates on twitter from here on out! I don't really like using tumblr for updates, so hopefully this is still a better alternative to having to check this journal for new updates when my schedule is so sporadic LOL it's a super honor to know that people are enjoying my translations, though...!
